Helping the people of Leicester to have long and healthy lives
People are invited to a free Community Health Events taking place in Belgrave areas.
There will be a range of activities and information available, from the NHS and other local organisations, designed to help people stay healthy and to find out about local services that support general health, mental health and wellbeing.
The event will be held on Saturday 30th March between 10am and 3pm, across three venues – Belgrave Health Centre, Belgrave Library and Cossington Street Sports Centre.
At the event there will be health and wellbeing advice on a range of subjects and the chance to join in some exercise sessions. People can find out about support for South Asian people with diabetes and the Silver Star charity will be offering tests for diabetes from their mobile unit. There will also be the opportunity to have blood pressure checks and body mass index (BMI) measurements.
There will be information about mental health services such as Let’s Talk Wellbeing, Turning Point and the Richmond Fellowship. The Care Navigators will be on hand, to explain how they can help people who are frail or elderly to live safely and more healthily at home.
At the event, library staff will also be on hand to show you how to access health services online, where you can book appointments and request repeat prescriptions without having to call or visit your GP practice.
Dr Modi, from Canon Street Surgery, in Belgrave, said:
“We all want to be well and there are so many ways that people can take good care of themselves, with a range of services designed to help them do just that. We want to promote health and wellbeing to the widest possible range of people, including those who don’t often visit their GP. Everyone’s welcome and we’re looking forward to two fantastic days.”
