This week marks the UK festival to celebrate the resilience and contributions of refugees and we are proud to be a part of this growing global movement. Events include arts, culture and education. The aim is to highlight positive encounters between different communities, encourage connecting, learning and overall to promote an open and welcoming culture.
Last year we hosted an event at The Leicester City of Sanctuary drop in, which was brilliant! Unfortunately due to current COVID 19 situation, we will not be attending any face-to-face events this year but that will not stop us celebrating in other ways. This year’s theme is ‘Imagine’ and the festival encourages us to practice ‘Simple Acts’. These are everyday actions we can all do to stand with refugees and make new connections in our communities. This will be the topic of conversation in our peer support groups this week. We will continue to work together year round with local charities that do an incredible job at supporting refugee and asylum seekers in Leicester such as Red Cross and The Leicester City of Sanctuary.
There is more information and lots of activities and ideas to celebrate on the refugee week website: https://refugeeweek.org.uk/simple-acts/
